Hello there!
About Me
Mary Selene is a dancer, choreographer and educator based out of Vermont. She received her BFA in Dance Performance with a Jazz Concentration from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has trained extensively in ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, lyrical, tap, hip hop, African and contemporary partnering. Her choreography has been featured in Future Artists choreography festival, as well as regionally throughout New England, where her work has received numerous choreography and technical achievement awards. She is certified to teach the first three levels of Giordano Jazz dance technique as well. She is Balanced Body Reformer pilates certified, and loves incorporating pilates training into her dance teaching. Currently, she is on faculty at Vermont Ballet Theater School in Shelburne, Studio 3 Dance in Colchester, VT, and Contemporary Dance and Fitness in Montpelier. She instructs Reformer Pilates classes at The Body Lab in Williston and South Burlington, VT. Throughout her dance training, Mary has found her love for choreography, teaching and performing, with a focus being on education. Her goal is to facilitate inclusive classes that challenge students technically, artistically and mentally, as well as foster a sense of community and personal ownership over the dancers craft, while allowing them to explore their own movement style. Previously, she has performed professionally and choreographed with Synergy Dance Company, as well as Entity Dance Company, and is excited for a new chapter of collaborating, exploration and creation with fellow artists. Her other training includes several years of Ballet at the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, The Bates Dance Festival, at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, and precision jazz with Rhonda Malkin formerly of The Rockettes. When she is not in the studio or onstage, Mary can be found working with preschoolers at a local childcare center, as well as reading, painting, biking, swimming, and spending time in the outdoors with her family.
